Chinese Embassy in Sudan Adjusts Visa Application Requirements for Foreigners
The Chinese Embassy in Sudan has adjusted its visa application requirements for foreigners wishing to visit China, effective from 0:00 (GMT+8) on March 15, 2023. The new visa application process and materials required for application are outlined below.
Visa Application Process
Applicants can fill out an electronic application form online using the China Online Visa Application system (https://cova.mfa.gov.cn) and use the Appointment for Visa Application Submission system (https://avas.mfa.gov.cn) to schedule a date and time to apply for a visa.
Applicants must submit their application in person at the Chinese Embassy in Sudan, where ten fingerprints will be collected on the spot. However, the following persons are exempted from fingerprint collection:
(i) Applicants under the age of 14 or over the age of 70;
(ii) Applicants with ten-finger mutilation or whose fingerprints cannot be collected;
(iii) Applicants that the Chinese Embassy in Sudan approves their exemption from collecting fingerprints.
Diplomatic, official, and courtesy visa applicants do not need to make an appointment. They can fill out and print the visa application form online using the China Online Visa Application system (https://cova.mfa.gov.cn) and submit relevant application materials directly to the Chinese Embassy in Sudan.
Requirements
The following materials are required for visa application:
(i) Passport: the original passport with a validity period of no less than 6 months and blank visa pages, and a copy of the information page.
(ii) Visa application form: “Visa Application Form of the People’s Republic of China”, “Confirmation of Online Visa Application,” and “AVAS Confirmation”. Applicants must fill out the form truthfully and completely online, download and print out all pages of the form, and sign the corresponding places on the application form and confirmation page.
(iii) Photo: small 2-inch (48mm×33mm) recent, full-faced, color (light-colored background), passport photo, pasted on the application form.
(iv) Legal residence certificate (applicable to non-Sudanese citizens): Non-Sudanese citizens must provide a third country certificate and a valid certificate of legal residence, work, or study in Sudan or a valid Sudanese visa and its photocopy when applying for a visa in Sudan.
(v) Original Chinese passport (applicable to those who once had Chinese nationality and then obtained citizenship in another country): If you are applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, you must provide the original Chinese passport and a copy of the information page.
(vi) Original Chinese visa: If you have previously obtained a Chinese visa and apply for a visa with a new passport, you must provide the original foreign passport information page and a copy of the previously obtained Chinese visa.
(vii) Proof of change of name: If the name recorded in the new passport is inconsistent with the original passport, the relevant official certificate of change of name must be provided.
(viii) Other materials deemed necessary by the Embassy.
Supporting application materials are also required for certain visa types, as outlined in the table below:

M visa, F visa To engage in business, trade, exchanges, visits, inspections, and other activities in China Invitation letters issued by business partners, organizations, or individuals in China
Z visa To work in China Valid “Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permit” (or original “Foreigner’s Work Permit,” etc.)
L visa Travel to China Travel planning materials such as round-trip air tickets and hotel orders, or invitation letters issued by units or individuals in China.
The invitation letter for an L visa should contain the following information:
- Personal information of the applicant, including full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number.
- Details of the planned visit, including purpose, intended arrival and departure dates, and places to be visited in China.
- Information about the inviter, including name, contact information, and relationship with the applicant.
- If the inviter is a company or organization, the invitation letter should include the company or organization’s name, address, and contact information.
- If the inviter is an individual, the invitation letter should include their Chinese ID card or passport copy, and proof of their status in China, such as a work permit or residence permit.
